Got my glasses prescription updated and debating options. I work in a place with fluorescent light most of the day. I'm fairly photosensitive and have frequent headaches and occasional migraines.

I've had two pairs of transitions, convenient but neither as good as sunglasses of course.

So […]

My personal conspiracy theory is that nobody actually uses the feature in google maps to report things like speed traps and lane closures, they're just collecting enough data to predict those things and the buttons are there for plausible deniability.

[Violence, Terror (Minnesota murder)]

For him, may every moment of every day be full of torment, anguish and pain.

Ice murders a legal observer, who was doing Constitutional things, in cold blood in the street as she drove _away_ from them.

Please download and share the video evidence as much […]

I love Anki but unless I'm missing something its UI is very annoying for learning symbols. I can't find a way to make the symbol fill most of the screen. I don't see why it has to be such a small font with most of my phone screen empty. Am I missing some setting to make the font significantly […]

I'm working my way through all of Tatsuki Fujimoto's works. So far I'm caught up on Chainsaw Man (love it), read Just Listen to the Song (good), read and watched the adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 (absolutely adored).

Currently working on Fire Punch. It's got some bits that are much […]

If you're looking for a very detailed and (IMO) very even handed recap of AI's development in the last year, I think this is required reading: https://arstechnica.com/ai/2025/12/from-prophet-to-product-how-ai-came-back-down-to-earth-in-2025/

Set up FreshRSS and am immediately reaping the benefits of having a proper RSS feed instead of algorithms and front pages of websites. Finding interesting stuff to read and watch I might have missed otherwise.

Back on the permacomputing experiments today. Struggling to connect the Nvidia Shield K1 Tablewt to wifi. It sees the network, it allows me to save the password... and then it doesn't connect? Tried on two networks to the same result. So not sure what's going on there yet.

Taking a break from Pokemon Lazarus at 4 gym badges to play some Advance Wars. Just as good as I remember. I feel like the GBA really encouraged a perfect level of complexity and depth. Easy to learn, hard to master.

St. Louis' "Feels Like" goes from a high of 73 to a low of -1 today. (That's 23 to -18 in Celsius). The real temp is 74 to 14 (23 to -10). It's like the weather checked its calendar and went "oh shit".

This advice is dependent on AI-induced errors being treated as an externality and thus not something the company is liable for.

I dearly hope that this does not become the case - the limited liability of corporations is bad enough. If companies are given any kind of legal pass for AI mistakes […]

Debated about setting up a PiHole today. Decided it doesn't fit our use case.

The issue for us is we use ProtonVPN on our devices. PiHole doesn't work if you're using a VPN. Proton also has its own (probably less effective) ad blocker. Not to mention ublock.

We *could* have the router connect […]

A while back I tested some old phones to see which boots, with the long term goal of making a permacomputing homelab. Today I'm going to dive a bit deeper on it.

First phone I'm looking at is a Galaxy S21 that a friend gave me. Broken screen in the bottom right. I'm going to first see if I can […]

As an extension of trying to avoid infinite scrolling distraction, I've disabled the browser on my phone. I sometimes still find a use for re-enabling it, but I try to disable it as soon as I'm done. Sometimes I fail to, and then I catch myself scrolling reddit.

An unexpected consequence of […]

A rule that has served me surprisingly well is starting new year's resolutions *before* new year's day. I think tying it to a specific day makes it easier to give up on when you lose your streak/don't start on time. Start now.

I've already poured 8 hours into Pokemon Lazarus on my recently jailbroken 3DS XL. It's very much exactly what I would want from a modern sprite based Pokemon game. The battery life on the 3DS is also incredible for such an old device. It's also just wonderful to have a pocket sized device that […]

Spending this 2 week break doing, among other things, some tech related projects. Right now I'm working on running custom firmware on a Animal Crossing 3DS XL. The SD card seems to be dying tho, so I'm trying to rescue what I can onto a new SD card...

The only way in which They Live aged poorly is that the MO is no longer to keep you asleep but rather to keep you in a constantly heightened state with sensational sportscasting headlines.

Been seeing what feels like an increasing number of false stories that stoke leftwing outrage. ICE is not buying guided missiles, according to a WIRED debunking. And while the Coast Guard has amended their policy to call swastikas and nooses "potentially divisive" instead of "hate symbols", the […]
