This, written by Teddy Roosevelt just prior to US intervention in WW1, seems apt to quote re. America:

“The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, and love of soft living and the get-rich-quick theory of life.”

This plan is as much about ways for US to profit (and for Trump circle to cash in). Remarkably, I assume, Trump must think this would get him closer to a Nobel, when in fact forcing this on Ukrainians would eliminate any chance (small as it is) of him getting a prize. Someone should tell him

The belief is that with new US Western Hemisphere focus & exposure to certain US hedge funds to the Peso, there were a lot of things driving the bailout. Reaction by Republicans was very negative. Not sure Trump (& certainly not Beasent) would want political fallout from bailing out Hungary.

Excellent. As for your last point, Trump obviously would grant Orban the favor of pushing a Bp summit,as would Putin. It would cement Hungary's vassal state status, but I'm skeptical it can solve his electoral/poparity problems at home unless accompanied by massive fiscal largesse from US at same time

For Orban, rebuilding the national team was a key priority, because he loves the sport & he believes it would be great for Natl morale & glory reflect on him. It’s been an expensive & largely unsuccessful effort. But making the World Cup would have been huge before the election. Came up short again

Fantastic short piece on Mosquera. There is added admiration for the route he’s taken and the success he has already achieved. Pretty inspirational in a time desperately short of it.

Spain it turns out has one of the highest %s of people with celiac. A great selection of gluten free products. One of few places my wife is really pleased with the choices.

As an American (albeit living in Europe), I agree with you! My wife and I have been doing this for years. @nytimes.com how do you use precious space for this?

As a European, I'm regularly amazed at the trivial everyday things Americans describe as a breakthrough discovery.

He has already succeed to a far greater extent than almost anyone would have believed a decade ago. Whether Detroit’s revival can continue is an open question, but there is hope now where there was for the longest time none.
