Regarding the question "Should a terrorist be killed even if he poses no danger?" 62.2% of the public responded that they agree or somewhat agree, while 36.3% responded that they disagree or somewhat disagree. Regarding the question of whether, in the event of a suspected capture of a building or tunnel opening, a Palestinian citizen can be sent to inspect the location so as not to endanger IDF soldiers, 36.8% of the Jewish public responded that they strongly agree and 17% that they somewhat agree. Other interesting questions in the survey deal with the purity of weapons and the interrogation of soldiers. This story sums up college football very neatly: a player stabs two of his teammates (violence is a ubiquitous part of the sport, even internal to the team, even off he field, even encouraged by coaches)… and then the game proceeds as if nothing is out of the ordinary.

Because it isn’t, really.
A UAB football player stabbed two of his teammates Saturday morning at the football facility ahead of the Blazers' home game against USF, a university spokesperson told ESPN. The suspect has been arrested, and both injured players are in stable condition after being taken to UAB hospital. The school has not released the names of any of the players involved. UAB's game against USF began as scheduled at 3 p.m. ET.

As George Bataille argued in 1933, fascism thrives on heterogeneity, on the mobilization of contradictions and difference from which it draws energy. At the press conference following the meeting between Trump and Mamdani, the media in the room anxiously struggled to keep up, shouting questions to reaffirm the distance between the two. Trump ate it up, commenting on how excited the press was about the meeting, how much more energy there was for this than for foreign leaders coming to visit. A reporter asked Mamdani if he still considered Trump a fascist. When he began to answer, Trump patted his arm and said, “That’s ok. You can just say yes.” An affable meeting with Mamdani in no way reduced Trump's own sense of himself as an authoritarian. It enhanced it. When asked if he thought Mamdani was a communist, Trump said “He has ideas that are a little out there, but..who knows? He then added, he’s gonna change. I’ve changed.” Here again - fascism isn't a fixed set of principles. Its vitality is fueled by its ability to selectively appropriate and repurpose elements of a wide variety of politics: democracy, populism, socialism, republicanism, patriarchy, racism, settlerism, on and on. The two had different but complementary agendas: Trump wanted to share in the energy of Mamdani's rise and (for various reasons) identify himself at this moment with a populist commitment to affordability. Mamdani was there to carve out a clear space of shared imperatives, or at the very least convince Trump that these were his imperatives as well - and in doing so take some federal heat off the city. Mamdani well knows that Trump is amenable to this kind of move in a way that no traditional Republican would be. But it is a gamble, because at the end of the day of course Trump remains a fascist who, like a vampire, will try to claim Mamdani's endorsement and the spirit of the mayor-elect’s economic populism to strengthen his own flagging political energy in this moment.

Unions affiliated with UC fought the Trump administration *and* the UC administration and WON, preserving academic freedom that was under enormous financial threat.

A federal judge barred the Trump administration from freezing or threatening to freeze the UC’s federal funding Friday. The lawsuit was filed by the American Association of University Professors, as well as 21 labor unions and faculty associations that represent 100,000 UC employees altogether. It alleges that the Trump administration’s suspension of $584 million in federal research funds to UCLA and proposed $1 billion settlement demand to regain said funding amounts to financial coercion and violates the free speech and due process rights of the University’s employees.

Let’s be clear: this (inspiring) amputee football tournament is a direct consequence of Israeli athleticide—the deliberate maiming of Palestinian athletes in an attempt to render them incapable of performing athletic national identity.

This tournament is thus a profound act of refusal.

A city-contracted plow operator in Toronto drove through a crowd protesting the US/Israel occupation of Gaza.

The operator apparently “feared for her personal safety.”

The fearful operator:
“Our operator was trying to do her job under difficult circumstances and feared for her personal safety,” Di Carlo said. “She had no other option but to remove herself from the situation slowly and carefully which is what she did ...
