I definitely think mainline Protestant churches need to step more in civic engagement. We do a lot in food insecurity, after school programs, disaster response, etc. But we aren't the loud voices

Actually when they participate in partisan politics for s candidate, they are breaking the tax law... Just like any non profit. If they are advocating on a position, it's legal. Churches I've been involved with advocated for laws adressing food insecurity, against torture and war.
