Merry Christmas and the best of the holiday season from all of us at North Mountain Animal Sanctuary.

We’ve received an early holiday gift this year. Thanks to the generosity of the Eric S. Margolis Family Foundation, we’ve been awarded a grant to replace our inadequate pig fencing with stronger fencing that can adapt as our needs change. Here is Fern with the very first piece of fencing purchased.

Did you know that every farm animal is a little different from the next? Just as we notice differences in the people, cats, and dogs we know, the same is true for farm animals. Each one is an individual. Something to think about.

Bandit says only one person has responded to our request to help transport two new pygmy goats to North Mountain Animal Sanctuary, and her car is too small. Bandit is looking forward to meeting these two, so if you can help transport two pygmy goats from Shubenacadie to NMAS, please get in touch.

A quick update on our new arrival Freya. She is doing well and living with Sanford who adores her. There is another potbelly pig in the neighborhood that is a friend of Freya. We're going to try and take him in too.

Introducing: Freya! This potbelly pig has quite the story. She showed up in the woods next to our pig run this morning at the sanctuary. We know she traveled a whole km to get to us, as we found out where she came from. With her release we're now caring for our first potbelly pig.

We're sure the sheep are missing Lemmy - they would often migrate towards him as a leader. They're such beautiful animals.
November 19, 2025 at 8:43 PM
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Lemmy the sheep. He passed away peacefully from old age this week. A gentle and friendly soul, he touched the lives of everyone who spent time with him. He will be remembered with love, always. Rest peacefully, dear friend

On this Remembrance Day, we pause to honour all who served and sacrificed — both human and animal. Horses, dogs, pigeons, and so many others endured hardship and loss alongside soldiers, offering loyalty and courage beyond words. We remember them all with gratitude and compassion.
