The blood donation people gave me a foam ball inside a rubber glove, to squeeze as fluid withdrew, and I found the thing disproportionately amusing. Especially with "I know this much is true" as a soundtrack.

I really enjoyed reading “Kick It - A Social History of the Drum Kit” by Matt Brennan. Beginning with dismissal of the idea that drums are “primitive,” the book describes how the various elements of the kit came together, came to be codified, the rise of drum makers, and more.
