Been on a Frank King kick lately, trying to gather all the Sunday strips from his original run on Gasoline Alley for my own little digital archive (I have some of the book collections, but they're just dailies). Found a PDF file of the 1922 strips in color online. Gorgeous stuff!

NYC-based Podcaster #703: No, I won't be seeing One Battle After Another actually. You cannot make a truly revolutionary film, the Hollywood system is built to prevent such a thing. It's an op to keep you placated.

Written 55 years ago, Schulz's heartfelt clarity cuts through the noise, even today.

Scan of a typed letter from 1970, from Peanuts creator Charles Schulz, addressed to "Joel Lipton, 622 N. Foothill Road, Beverly Hills, Calif. 90210"

It reads:

"Dear Joel:

I think it is more difficult these days to define what makes a good citizen than it has ever been before. Certainly all any of us can do is follow our own conscience and retain faith in our democracy. Sometimes it is the very people who cry out the loudest in favor of getting back to what they call "American Virtues" who lack this faith in our country.

I believe that our greatest strength lies always in the protection of our smallest minorities.

Sincerely yours,

Charles M. Schulz"

A scene from a 1921 Gasoline Alley strip where Walt Wallet is being pitched a crappy insurance plan. It's been over 97 years since this strip ran, Gasoline Alley is still running and Walt is still canonically alive despite aging in real time. He should've taken the deal
