Screens are inherently less safe than buttons. Distracted driving is causing fatality rates to rise. Screens require one's eyes and attention to be pulled away from driving. Buttons can be identified and operated by feel only. Voice might work, though it's irritating to passengers.

I thought the entire purpose of tactile controls on the dashboard were so that you didn't have to look down while driving and could operate things by feel. Having to look at a screen and go through sub-menus seems EXTREMELY dangerous while going 80mph in a thousand pound metal coffin.

Guess I am one. I have them and they seem like useless decorations. They aren't a replacement for a real manual transmission with a clutch and the auto can shift better than I can. Halfway between and serves no real purpose that I can tell.
