Our first real snow event will unfold in the mountains Sunday night through Monday. However, some flurries can't be completely out of the question if the moisture slips further east and into the Piedmont. Higher snowfall totals will be confined to the TN/NC border.

Hurricane Melissa continues to rapidly intensify and remains a considerable threat through Wednesday to Jamaica, parts of Hispaniola, eastern Cuba and the Turks and Caicos. Let's pray that those who weren't able to evacuate are safe as Melissa passes by.

Tropical Storm #Melissa recently showing some convective bursts near the center, which is a signal of becoming better organized. The forecast still remains challenging due to the nature of a trough that dives south and the speed of the storm over time.

A nor'easter will bring impacts to our state throughout the weekend. This includes wind gusts of 20-50 mph, heavy rainfall that could lead to flooding, coastal overwash, and beach erosion. The greatest impacts will be felt along our coast and outer banks.

Humberto will offer a hand to help drag soon-to-be Imelda away from the Carolina coast Tuesday and Wednesday. That is the current trend, and we'll monitor for any changes. Regardless, some impacts will still be felt within the Carolinas early in the workweek.

My latest thoughts on Invest 93-L and Invest 94-L are that both could very well become named storms. Invest 94-L could get quite close to the Carolina coast early Monday, and is dependent on placement of the cutoff low and Bermuda High at that time.

We are monitoring two tropical waves that both have a solid chance at becoming tropical depressions or named storms later this week. The one closing in on the Leeward Islands will be worth watching a little closer. It's September, and the Atlantic Basin reminds us.

The convection has increased with Invest 92-L, but it continues to take on dry air limiting its development. It likely overcomes the dry air and becomes a Tropical Depression or Gabrielle midweek. This remains no threat to the United States, but worth monitoring.
