people do not make $60k+ unless they are selling something unethical. that's not real. and you can't talk to older generations about this bc they're all residually making at least that much and they cannot comprehend that society no longer exists

Breaking: We’ve talked to multiple individuals who have confirmed that UNC-CH is merging SILS (library and information science) and SDSS (data science and society). Announcement will be tomorrow morning. Faculty were not consulted.

you know how occupational/earnings by degree field numbers have a “over 25” breakout so you see the “non-entry” salaries? at this point we need an inverse category, “only what they’re paying people born in 1990 or later.” these income ranges might as well be fictional when they include Gen x/boomers

Just put this guy and the Flock guy on a deserted island together so they can surveill each other until the end times.

*arguing not fighting I mean, I should not be trying to articulate things while brain fogged from cramps 🤦🏼‍♀️

no disagreement from me but wanted to note that this conversation started in the small humanities academia corner of bsky where we are all cursed to enjoy picking apart the semantics & symbolism of things that are not recent :) so more that than fighting! anyway I too wish everyone a good weekend

I feel like it all comes down to a shared experience of mom walks into the kitchen in the morning and you see her making a batter and the same batter could be either pancakes or waffles so the opposition is implied bc only one gets made. now I am also thinking too much about this lol

so the regional arepas types would kind of work but they’re both a main meal component so maybe in that sense not? I think the closest parallels would have to be opposing two side dishes or even condiments
nogoodwyfe.bsky.social
oh yeah that’s why! the original point was the non-overlap in characteristics but like… in the context of being two breakfast meal component options where I guess a lot of people would concur that any given breakfast can have only one or the other dough-based sweet carb component.

thus we get stuff like this more & more, where student-consumers think assignments exist to force the stages of the learning process & to create app checklists for them so they aren’t responsible for their engagement or awareness of material, rather than as checkpoints for assessing learning

[To Do] Disable the To Do List
Status: Open
Submitted by jmccarth on 12-16-2019 02:13 AM
I want students to work from the Modules and complete work in the order on the Module. This ensures student learning progresses in a sound pedagogical order. The student To Do list completely sabotages student learning. If they click on an assignment on the To Do list without doing all the preparatory pages and information I have listed, in order, on the Module, they are not properly prepared or reinforcing their learning.
I have to put big red words to asking them NOT to work from the TO DO list, but some students will take the short cut anyway.
Also, the student To Do list takes up too much screen real estate. This right frame is completely counter-productive and unnecessary.
Please put in a feature where the instructo control or disable the student To Do list. seamus_hackett

Come on. As a student, the to do list has saved me so many times from forgetting to do an assignment that is due. If your students aren't doing the required readings, thats your fault for not making the assignments more involved and requiring those readings to be completed. I can't believe you want to punish every student who uses canvas and benefits from this function simply because you can't engage your students enough to do the readings.

one of the insidious evils of the LMS industry creep is now that they are apps they are obviously adding functions to respond to user (student) demand. most of these require pedagogical shifts from instructors to work. they’re dictating pedagogy without thinking about pedagogy AT ALL
