I think that the major women pop artists are doing well. Rap less so. I haven’t heard any African music outside of BlueSky though.
I agree with your root causes Good local radio can make a big difference! I’m lucky to have CBC and WDET across the river. Commercial radio is a lost cause.

I think it's more of a time issue. Most people won't spend the time on it and rely on the streaming algorithms for discovery.
