Doesn’t sound like anything changed substantially. Just words…and the proposal to reduce forces in Minnesota is contingent on getting the local cops to play nice with ICE.

I know how to write in cursive, I do journal - but the only time I write in cursive is when I sign my name

Very wise. Maybe we need a new acronym: MATA: Make America Think Again
January 28, 2026 at 5:42 PM
So you’re saying that it’s not related to DEI? Shocking.

…and when their money goes away, the Republicans will see Trump as a liability
January 27, 2026 at 8:58 PM
Not really. They support him because they are afraid of being primaried.

Once they lose that fear…
January 27, 2026 at 8:29 PM
What do you suppose will happen when Republicans see Trump as a liability?
January 27, 2026 at 4:17 PM
You’re thinking too narrowly.

Trump has been able to do everything he wants because the costs of opposing him > costs of supporting him.
January 27, 2026 at 4:13 PM
That’s more or less what they told John Adams. 😉

I think a lot of people are missing the big picture. This isn’t about whether he is a good man or had a sincere change of heart. It’s about political costs. It’s about party unity. REPUBLICANS pushing back against the Trump narrative is huge.
January 27, 2026 at 3:03 PM
That alone is significant. He doesn’t have to be a saint. This demonstrates there are political costs.
January 27, 2026 at 2:59 PM
That still demonstrates that this “operation” has political costs and that the Republican Party isn’t as unified as it was.
January 27, 2026 at 2:56 PM
in the back of their heads…and when that happens, people will start leaving ICE, recruiting will become more difficult…
January 27, 2026 at 2:55 PM
I see you don’t believe in due process.
January 27, 2026 at 2:52 PM
ICE agents should be getting a little nervous. If it’s just 2 senators, they may talk themselves into thinking everything is fine, but the fact that 2 senators are calling for real investigations should put “my immunity may not be ironclad. If political winds shift…how long will my immunity last?”
January 27, 2026 at 2:52 PM
The article lists Senators Thomas Tillis and Bill Cassidy (both Republicans) demanding investigations (including from the state) and criticizing the government for rushing to judgment.
January 27, 2026 at 2:33 PM
How? He was a candidate. For governor. How was he going to expose anything?
January 27, 2026 at 2:28 PM
What do you think of John Adams? He supported a soldier that participated in the Boston Massacre.

Ross has a right to legal representation. I’m not going to vilify a man for taking that role.
January 27, 2026 at 2:28 PM
This is good. If you actually read it, he is not the only Republican that is publicly disagreeing with Trump.
January 27, 2026 at 2:25 PM
Of course not. The idea that the world operates on morality is just silly. It operates on self (national) interest.

If your national interests are secure, then you can worry about morality.
January 27, 2026 at 2:24 PM
Not during this administration.
January 27, 2026 at 2:17 PM
I think this is the sort of thing that leads to cracks in the administration: if you become a political liability, you will be sidelined and perhaps even abandoned.

Your protection and “immunity” are temporary, even if you were a good lap dog.
January 27, 2026 at 2:17 PM
His point is reality exists. Not that it can’t be met - just that they have a long way to go.
January 27, 2026 at 2:13 PM
Eh. I wouldn’t say that exactly. Think of it as bandwidth. Right now, Europe’s bandwidth is consumed by the Trump betrayal. So if you have to deal with someone who is an active threat, someone who is not a threat doesn’t seem so bad (even if you disapprove of them)
January 27, 2026 at 2:06 PM
I am seeing plenty of things that will bring about change. It’s just not going to be fast.
