YEAH AGREED I think it's cool that this continues into the Buu saga with Goku's talk with piccolo after he fights Buu

Like he Could kill Buu if he really went all out but it's not a realistic solution to future threats to earth

Until he just steps in and does it anyway after gohan gets slammed

I'm conflicted on whether or not it wouldve been a good idea for them to commit to passing the torch from Goku completely but it's just interesting how Z kinda builds that up and reverts it by the end of the Buu saga (esp with Goku himself expressing that someone else should protect earth)

I honestly feel like they were starting to cook up something fun with gohan in Buu saga in terms of him trying to live a normal life alongside being a saiyan but idk by the time he loses to super buu it feels like they totally lose confidence in even trying to let him carry the story

I think a lot about how krillin gohan and piccolo were central to like every conflict in DBZ and it made things so much more tense when fights took place without the strongest guy there (as much as I do love Goku)

I feel like dragon ball might honestly benefit from being told in less linear ways so it's not always like "well why didn't Goku just break out this form ???"
