PERFECT PEBBLE How do you pick the perfect pebble when there are so many to choose? Is it smooth or bumpy? Does it sparkle in the moonlight? Maybe it’s none of those. I still don’t know how to pick just one pebble. That’s why my pockets are full.

ON A LOG IN A BOG 
Out from a pile
of oopy-goop soup,
a creature
slowly grows.

No fingers,
no toes —
just a round blobby head
and a tail that softly glows…

Here’s the part
where things get strange:
this squiggly,
wiggly,
wobbly glob
begins to rearrange.

Tiny legs sprout
with squishy webbed feet;
now our booger-like beast
is finally complete.

It floats —
and it croaks —
on a log
in the bog.

It’s the one.
The only.
Frog.

HOUSE CAT

If I were a cat —
a house cat at that —
I’d be pudgy
and stout.

Wait by my bowl,
eat kibble whole,
knock over
all of the things.

Act like a loon,
sleep until noon,
then roar a ferocious…
meow!
