Are Colossal Biollocks planning to create a hybrid of a dire wolf and mammoth? Perhaps a mouse-sized one?

Not knocking Rob Reiner in any way (great director and actor), but "All In The Family" was very much based on the BBC's "Till Death Us Do Part" satirical comedy, scripted by Johnny Speight.

Oldie, so I had measles and rubella as a child, pre-vaccine. Occupational Health required measles immunity. Medic said test for immunity then vaccinate if needed. Seemed pointless, and I had never had mumps. So I had MMR jabs without the test. It seemed MMR is easily available.

I like the sentiment, but ocean life might have a different opinion!

Healthy soil is definitely very important.

Will UK immigration be removing gold teeth from asylum seekers under Mahmood's new jackbooted regime?

The word around the coffee machine was that many reputable genetics folk were asked "will you sequence Hitler's DNA for us?" Aware of how sleazy that project would be, they refused. I wonder if the mugs that accepted will regret their involvement?

Isn't running out of priests rather like running out of liars, fantasists and bullies?

Where's the problem?

Starmer seems to have a problem with opinionated women of colour. He is a profound disappointment: short on decency, incoherent on communication, a micro-managing and ineffective manager. And depressingly trying to attract far right votes.

I'm fairly patriotic but, as a republican and an atheist, there is no way I will sing "god save the king."

Yes, more beds would help. But when planned surgery and emergency services are not separated in different facilities that can cause problems to both.

Plus of course better provision of step-down care for those who need monitoring but not the full acute set up and social care.
July 9, 2025 at 8:07 PM
Absolutely! Patient flow is critical, and depends on social care. In our A&E the waiting room was bursting, but the medical activity was essentially on target. The blockage was that A&E patients couldn't be moved to wards, and that was because ward patients weren't getting home or to care.

Boating near the cliffs of a Greek island we passed a dead goat bobbing in the waves. Sometimes gravity wins.

On ER the hero doctors shouted "type and cross-match for electrolytes and four units of o-negative on a needle driver, stat!" while absolutely nobody took any notice!

Time to show some guts too: there is talk about covering disability payments by not raising tax allowances. So lower rate earners pay more, higher rate payers are barely affected. I bet Starmer doesn't have the guts to make the rich pay!
July 1, 2025 at 12:33 PM
Getting the work done is only part: the government must talk to its natural supporters, not just to Faragist knuckle-draggers.

Talk about making the super-rich pay their way, about rejoining the EU, be clear that Thames Water will not involve the country paying for its fraudulent directors' acts.

Liberation movements have shown that the people lead a violent revolution are not necessarily the best equipped to lead a peacetime government.

In the same way, those who advise how to win elections are often not the best to advise a stable government. McSweeney appears to fit that category.

Excuse ignorance, what does "whips are refusing slips" mean and indicate please?
June 24, 2025 at 1:06 PM
A card from the local church just dropped through my letterbox: "We said a prayer for you today and know God must have heard. We felt the answers in our hearts although God spoke no word!"

It would be more convincing if their God had spoken some words. But he can't. Because he doesn't exist.

I wonder if current technology can do that? I think choosing one of several soundtracks should be easy (is it?), but your suggestion is great! So choose the language track for dialogue and the settings for others!
June 17, 2025 at 3:01 PM
It's frustrating too that there is no attempt to use multiple sound tracks on tv. I would like to have an alternative sound track with much reduced background music so my ageing ears have less to filter out from the dialogue. It's surely worse for people with significant hearing impairment.

I heard the current Earl of Powis (the Clive family) interviewed and he seemed happy with the suggestion of removing the statue of Robert Clive in central Shrewsbury. The Earl appears to be a decent person. Shrewsbury didn't have the guts to remove the statue of this vile monster.

To spice the nonsense, NFL players are expressly forbidden from kicking the ball/egg if an opportunity occurs: "No player may deliberately kick a loose ball …" Yes, no feet in their "football"!

Both rugby codes allow fly hacking, dribbling, kick passes, etc. Not NFL.
