Global Architecture of Funding Funds from the Global North to the Global South are often presented as aid or cultural cooperation, but they can serve other strategic or ideological purposes. Right-wing governments redirect public resources to conservative institutions. Anti-gender funding blocks progressive laws and criminalizes sexual diversity. Mapping key organizations and channels is critical to understanding influence. Why It Matters These financial networks strengthen anti-gender movements and extremist agendas. Understanding the architecture of funding is key to defending rights and advancing gender justice. Awareness of these flows informs strategic advocacy and global solidarity.

(1/2): Noor’s #KnowYourEnemy Popular Education School held its 4th session on Sept 26! 🌍 We unpacked the political economy of illicit funding - hidden flows, party financing & crowdfunding powering anti-gender + far-right movements & blocking gender justice. #NoorSchool #FeministEducation
Noor Popular Education School on Countering the Far Right - KNOW YOUR ENEMY. Session 4 Political Economy: Investigating the undercurrents of illicit funding, political party financing, and the rise of crowdfunding as key players in today’s political landscape Financial Networks & Strategies Illicit financial flows often operate in legal gray areas to influence politics. Funds are deliberately structured to support anti-gender and extreme-right agendas. Mechanisms include cryptocurrencies, digital crowdfunding, religious institutions, and redirected public development funds. Donor-advised funds and private foundations can be used to obscure the source or purpose of funding, including for ideological agendas.

(2/3): Every meal cooked, every testimony archived, every lesson taught is a refusal to be invisible. Their acts of survival and storytelling are not just survival—they are collective liberation. #VoicesOfResistance #Sudan #WomenResist #MemoryAsPower #RightToSurvive
“Every meal cooked in a blockade, every testimony archived, and every digital story shared is a refusal to be erased.” “Resistance is not only about protest in the streets. It is also the quiet, sustained labor of survival, memory, and knowledge production under conditions of erasure.” “Sudanese women’s resistance is both material and symbolic. It feeds bodies, preserves stories, and contests ideological domination.” “Erasure and resistance are not separate phenomena. They are intertwined in a continuous cycle: regimes erase, women resist, repression intensifies, and resistance adapts.”
noornetwork.bsky.social
(1/3): In "Between Erasure and Resistance", Tesneem Elhassan shows how Sudanese women turn erasure into defiance. From blockaded cities to exile, their bodies, stories, and memories are sites of resistance against state repression and Islamist authoritarianism.
“Women’s erasure in Sudan is not incidental; it is systematic, deliberate, and ideological.” “Memory becomes a site of struggle: against forgetting, against distortion, against erasure.”

On Sept 12, Noor’s #KnowYourEnemy School dove into #antigender movements as #transnationalnetworks framing “gender ideology” as threat, forging unholy alliances & waging battles at the UN.
We reflected on their narratives, risks for activists & need for solidarity + creative resistance.

#NoorSchool
Noor Popular Education School - Know Your Enemy. Session 3: Infiltration and Conferencing: Investigating the geopolitical ambitions that drive covert operations and strategic gatherings
Global Networks & Core Strategies
Anti-gender movements are not isolated. They are:
Transnational networks with significant funding and political influence
Coordinated through “alliances” of religious and political actors
United by the concept of “gender ideology,” used to undermine human rights
Active in multilateral spaces like the UN, shaping global policy debates
Narratives & Influence

These movements advance by:
Glorifying a “traditional past” while framing equality as a threat
Spreading narratives of victimhood, fear, and conspiracy
Using global platforms to expand reach and build legitimacy
Narratives matter: they shape public opinion, policy, and lived realities.
Contested Spaces & Resistance
Multilateral institutions (like the UN) are key battlegrounds:
Anti-gender actors stigmatize these spaces while also working inside them
They block progress by reframing debates and stalling negotiations.
Activists face the challenge of limited resources vs. well-funded opposition, requiring both strategic responses and solidarity.

“It is the culmination of wounds and pain of Indonesian people who have to endure state violence and inequality, accumulated by one tragedy after another.” “Her weekly protest and presence tell us a truth more profound than any politician's speeches: justice denied is injustice perpetuated.” “In the end, resistance is not chaos, and even if it is, it is needed when systemic injustices are left unchallenged.”

(1/2): In “Women’s Resistance against Economic Inequality, State Violence & Corrupt Elites in Indonesia”, Siti Yunia Mazdafiah & Amar Alfikar show how the viral image of a mother in a pink hijab facing riot police came to embody public defiance.
“In Indonesia, there is this phrase, ‘The Power of Ibu-ibu,’ or the power of the mothers, that reflects the courage and rage of mothers who are against all taboos and patriarchal pictures of what women should be.” “Her resistance became the face of public defiance and the reality on the ground that the Indonesians had been facing for years.” “Rather than listening to the people’s needs and de-escalating the tension, President Prabowo instructed the military and police to ‘take firm action’ against demonstrations.”

Noor’s #KnowYourEnemy School held its session 2 on Aug 29!

#NoorSchool #CounterTheFarRight #PopularEducation
Noor Popular Education School on Countering the Far Right: KNOW YOUR ENEMY. session 2: Propaganda and Narrative: Analyzing how the concept of “the other” is constructed to shape perceptions and influence public opinion The Global Far Right & Its Core Pillars:

Far-right movements operate as a global network, adapting to local contexts but united by core ideas: they promote ethno-religious supremacy, racial supremacy, and misogyny; glorify a mythical golden past; stoke fears of demographic replacement; frame themselves as victims; create enemies; and admire authoritarian leaders while resorting to violence. Digital Platforms & Propaganda:

Social media acts as a powerful amplifier for far-right narratives, with algorithms rewarding outrage and boosting extremist content. Through diaspora networks, online subcultures like the incels and manosphere, and exploitative platform dynamics, their influence spreads across borders. Far-right groups deliberately distort truth, filling information vacuums with propaganda that manipulates perceptions, especially during conflicts, political crises, and social flashpoints. Recognizing this digital ecosystem and the strategic use of misinformation is essential for building effective responses. Narratives & Strategic Reframing:

Narratives shape how people perceive reality, make decisions, and assign value. Far-right narratives rely on fear, nostalgia, victimhood, and conspiracy, reinforcing harmful frames. Effective responses require proactive narrative shaping - not just reacting, but reframing stories for diverse audiences to shift dominant narratives and influence perceptions.

(2/3): In "War, (Anti)Fascism, and the Political Task of Emancipatory Social Movements", Abdul Vajid shows how the India–Pakistan conflict exposes colonial legacies, militarization & rising authoritarianism.
“Under the conditions of fascist democratization, this sovereign power is now diffused and shared between state apparatuses and a mobilized mass public.” “The fascist kernel of Indian nationalism was already operative in the Occupation of Kashmir, where a project of racial and demographic engineering was carefully constructed and maintained through regimes of military violence, political repression, and total surveillance.”
noornetwork.bsky.social
(1/3): Kashmir sits at the heart of South Asia’s unfinished struggles — where India’s “democracy” reveals its colonial foundations, and where silence on occupation fuels a wider fascist consensus.
“The question of Kashmir serves as an illuminating political analytic for understanding the contradictions of (anti)fascism in India.” “This nostalgic nationalist anti-fascism requires completely ignoring and sidestepping the oppressive occupation of Kashmir; a history of injustice as long as the history of postcolonial India itself.” “The task of an emancipatory social movement is to constitute a new people; one forged primarily through the values and practices of resistance, solidarity, and internationalism.”
