Words are not necessarily the thoughts, beliefs, or even knowledge of the people writing or speaking them. Words don't have meanings—but they may have jobs. Keep that straight and this place will make so much more sense.

Guan Yin has got to be about done with our bullshit. Maybe there's not that much work that can really be done here, she muses. Nirvana's starting to look pretty good

Right? I have never dealt with things at your level, but at my level it's been sleepless enough lol

It sucks HARD and the State never takes anything off the plate, only adds stuff. Same for professional licensure. It's a one-way ratchet. Feels like only the hyperrich really get any benefits from "deregulation" efforts.

(Whine whine, bitch and moan, woe is me, but you know what I mean)

This is why it's functionally illegal to run a small business in the U.S.—the compliance burden is tough when you can't afford skilled staff focused on compliance issues—and it sucks that the Republican Party is the one that has pretended to care about this.

Jeff must be a longtime Atlantic reader who loves mistaking snotty contrarianism for brains

Oh, sorry. There's a better one that has nothing to do with China. I just mean "having a basis for your economy that you also treat like shit" as the American pattern here
nora-hakase.bsky.social
That's good but keep going, there's a better one
nora-hakase.bsky.social
What could possibly be more American?

If and when I get back there. Thanks for that.

God he's always been such a fucking asshole

I figured it was something like that.

Yes. Skinner's use of the word "reinforcement" is exactly this.

As always, your enthusiasm makes me happy.

I'm absolutely no expert, so my opinion is worth very, very little. But the anime (didn't read the manga) seemed fairly straightforward, not romanticized, not Noble Savage-y, just ... Interested. Curious. I like that approach. Yōtei similarly, though in softer focus so far.

glad to be born at a time when i got to see what life was like before the internet and will be dead before AI completely destroys humanity

This is all very weird for me because it seems to lean on a definition of "reinforcement learning" that is different than the Skinnerian definition. Though I could be misunderstanding something.

Good, innit. I'm enjoying the advanced degree in Ainu studies part right now

I'm sorry—I laughed helplessly at this one, I really needed to see something like this today

Just outstanding use of the format

FYI, the responsible thing to do (in my opinion) is to make 15-minute sessions an out-of-pocket charge, make a clear agreement on what the fee is, and bill the family directly for that fee, as agreed. Or else just eat the session. But don't fucking commit insurance fraud.
