A big self-seeded Borage popped up this year 💙
It's far better than any I grew myself, it's grown huge and is still flowering now 💙
I'm getting more and more convinced that direct sowing and just scattering seeds about is the way to go 😂
What would nature do?

A Borage plant with several blue star-like flowers with black centres.
The plant is growing against a fence.

There's a lovely large flock of Jackdaws and Rooks in the village and every evening they have a fly round before they decide where to roost for the night 🖤
If I'm awake I sometimes see them do the same thing early in the morning just before dawn 🖤
I do love the corvids 😊

That was a wild and scary night 😱

Things have mostly survived, runner beans and sunflowers taken a bit of a battering 🤨
We've had a Goldfinch feeding from my Meadowsweet seeds this morning which is a first as I didn't know they liked to eat them 😊
#MHHSBD
A Goldfinch perched on some dried stems of a Meadowsweet plant eating the Meadowsweet seeds.
It's not the best photo as it was taken through a window on a very windy day. There are other plant stems obscuring the view of the bird.
Goldfinches have a bright red face just behind their beaks, followed by a white stripe then a black stripe onto their head. They have black tips to their wings with white and yellow markings.
Meadowsweet seeds available from our shop at www.jemimasgarden.co.uk, (to plant rather than feed to the Goldfinches) >😊

I think this handsome bug is a Hairy Shieldbug, looking very hairy indeed.
Apparently they "overwinter" and emerge again in the spring.
Please don't tidy all your "dead" vegetation away this winter, please leave somewhere for Hairy Shieldbugs and their pals to hide away 🐛🐝🪲🐞😊

A very handsome bug with shades of deep reddish brown, brownish gold and black and white bits. Because I've no idea what the different insect bits are called here's the description, (and link), from the experts at British Bugs, (https://www.britishbugs.org.uk/heteroptera/Pentatomidae/dolycoris_baccarum.html):
"A large and distinctive purple-brown and greenish shieldbug which is covered with long hairs. The antennae and connexivum are banded black and white. During the winter, the ground colour becomes uniformly dull brown."
It's sitting in the middle of some Downy Woundwort leaves and you can also just make out one or two flowers which are very pale pink with darker purplish stripes. The Downy Woundwort leaves are very hairy as well.
Seeds for various plants to hide your insects in are available from our website at www.jemimasgarden.co.uk 😊 A very handsome bug with shades of deep reddish brown, brownish gold and black and white bits. We've had a lot to do indoors the last few days so we've just had a quick wander to blow the cobwebs away 😊
Interesting clouds this evening and we made a quick diversion to the bunny field to see who was about -
five brown bunnies of varying sizes & one black one

A recently cut grassy field that slopes uphill away from you.
At the top there is a cow on the horizon and an interesting clowd that looks like it has emerged from the ground just over the hill.
The cloud is backlit by the late evening sun and the sky beyond is a pale blue. A rough grass field with a stone wall beyond.
There are five brown rabbits in a group in the field and one black one.

Decided to try an experiment. One of our pine martens (Big Norm) likes eggs and will immediately carry them away. Tonight I thought I’d try hanging one from a branch. Took a bit of work but it was fun watching him trying to remove the egg! @whitmuir1.bsky.social @pinetencolin.bsky.social

The fact that this government would even consider this is awful.
This is no Labour government. They're Tory at best but not that far removed from Reform.
