Haha makes sense for the time of year but Dec 17 specifically?? So odd

Like am I uniquely inspired by #D17 International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers?

Or is it being 2 weeks from end of the year?

Or some combination of all of it lol

Match Group received MULTIPLE reports about Matthews' behavior. They knew he was using their apps, and in particular Hinge, to find his victims. Yet they continued to welcome Matthews on their apps, knowing their products were facilitating his rape spree.

The 1st report to Hinge we know of was Sep 2020 after a victim was drugged & assaulted by Matthews. 3 months later Hinge recommended Matthews' profile to this same woman. She reported it to Hinge again, & they said he was banned permanently. Yet she wasn't his 1st nor his last victim thru the apps.

Match Group knew since AT LEAST Sept 2020 about what Matthews was doing, but allowed him to continue using their apps until March 2023, when Matthews was arrested by Denver PD [after the first report to police.] He was later convicted of 35 counts related to drugging/assaults of 11 women.

With the ubiquity of social media, we're all at risk of being stalked, whether it's by someone we know personally, or by someone who's formed a complete parasocial relationship w/ us turned to obsession.

New Yorkers deserve more. Over 20 orgs have signed on to support #CREEPAct

If you're a New Yorker being stalked by a co-worker, friend, fan, stranger, etc. you currently do not qualify for a civil OP. You have to rely on law enforcement to make an arrest -- and we all know how that usually goes.

#CREEPAct brings stalking laws up to date.

I get to do my dream job where no day is the same. Ive been given the opp to speak at the WH, dept of HHS, & more. I have the freedom to express who I am everyday.

I’ve always been a “planner” but realized theres no way I ever could’ve planned this life. & today, I couldn’t picture it any other way

That was before I ever chose to do online SW.

For me OF has been a form of reclamation. Something I thought wouldn’t be an option for me. But I decided I wasn’t going to let my trauma or societal expectations/judgments let me limit my options.

Letting myself consider it made me know I wanted it.

& thru both my work and personal life, meeting more SWs and realizing the obstacles they face in seeking help — & the ways stigmatization & criminalization makes them more vulnerable to violence — I realized I needed to learn, & to be more vocal in my support of SW rights.

Through my work, I’ve also seen the ways marginalized communities are often ignored & without access to help when they’re under attack. It’s important to me that I actively work towards building a world where ALL victims are listened to.

And in my convos with victims, it’s my aim to not just understand their problem but to help them envision a life beyond what they’re going through.

That’s why I believe in pleasure activism and sex positivity. The shame that so many of us feel is so misplaced, when it should be on they who did it.

The survivors I meet with have had their lives uplifted or destroyed, whether it’s by an obsessed individual or by a tech company that facilitated the death of their loved one.

In my day to day work, I am committed to understanding their situation so that we can hopefully get them justice.

I’ve been sharing my story publicly for years. My lived experience has given me insight that has been vital to my work at our firm, and to contribute to larger convos about cultural shifts & legislation. But more than anything my work w/ survivors gives me perspective that I’m dedicated to uplifting

Tho I lived in NJ, 1 of 3 states at the time w/ laws criminalizing “revenge porn” I was turned away by police. That’s how I met Carrie Goldberg, one of the only people talking publicly about & fighting this issue. She’d become my lawyer, mentor, and my boss.

I’m also the host of Oral Arguments, a podcast about sex, tech, & victims rights. And I’m an OF creator.

I got into this work because almost 10 years ago, at 19 I was the victim of stalking & image based sexual abuse at the hands of my ex of 2 years.
