A somewhat evolved ape curiously studying anthropology.
They’ve long been simply repeating the same official talking points, but the idol of their cult just can’t stick to a script.

I think using the word "democrats" in relation to these plants is at best incorrect if not outright disingenious.

Well, as long as there are no consequences for fascists infiltrating the Democratic Party, we’ll keep seeing this.

Not to mention, there's now a complicit wing of the military that has demonstrated their willingness to follow blatantly illegal orders and stands to lose a lot if the political leadership ever changes :(

Boardgaming. Works beautifully.

She was just sitting next to me reading a book for school, and right behind her on the wall is the baby picture where she still barely fits onto my arm. And I swear it doesn't feel as if all that much time has passed...

I know that feeling - my daughter is 8, so I am a little bit anxious about it. :(

As an aside, everyone everywhere should be thanking Ukrainians profusely at every opportunity. They are singlehandedly holding up a whole lot of what we used to call "Western Values" - almost all by themselves, in the face of atrocious adversity and with far too little support.

I am getting old, but wasn't there something else people distributing or creating child pornography were supposed to do, other than apologize? I seem to vaguely recall "getting arrested" or "being held accountable"?

Very evident from these videos how this is a "surgical police action", what with the use of high explosive ordinance the DEA is so well known for. /s

Very different from the experience of "I really need to finally bring one of those more complex games to the table", closely followed by "oh no, what have I committed us to?!" ;)

Once you have a capable military demonstrating through action that they are absolutely willing to follow blatantly illegal orders, there really is no limit anymore. :(

Thank you - I get beautifully nostalgic seeing those. :)

This is so encouraging to see. In the current situation, leaving any race unopposed is practically political malfeasance.

The sad corollary here is that the people who built their business models on the assumption that there must be very many very gullible idiots around were absolutely correct :(

This. Everything is arguably very awful, but the US has been around a very long time and pulled through a whole lot of awful. So: hope.

Arguably the expectation here should be not that some votes might not be counted due to when they'll be postmarked, but that votes from heavily red leaning districts will all be marked on time while votes from blue districts will somehow not make it by the cutoff.

"I wonder why US healthcare costs are so high. Too bad there's really nothing that anyone could do about it, the problem is too complex." /s

My thing has been explaining their utility as the next level of the old Visual C++ getting started feature. :)

Can relate - we had our first New Years wishes from Seoul early in the morning, and by the time the fireworks started, we were getting live reports of how a hungover first day of ‘26 felt ;)

Good times. Meanwhile, we just watched a youtube rendition of Dinner for One (sort of a german tradition) and are wondering if we can hold out until midnight in the middle of clam country ;)
Happy New Year!
