For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes (Matthew 5). But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course, that's Moses, not Jesus. I haven't heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere. 'Blessed are the merciful' in a courtroom? Flashbacks of toting around a copy of the US spending database on an NVMe drive
Screen shot of now deleted twitter posts from @DataRepublican, content of tweet chain is as follows: I was traveling at the time and had limited access to hardware. Fortunately, I had brought the backup drive with me. I ran this query on an external hard drive connected to a MacBook Air in a hot, humid, hotel room. When I returned home, the query completed without any issues. -- The US Spending database is multiple terabytes large. It literally does not fit in any of the standard MacBook Air builds. -- Also, database engines depend on a tight coupling between the storage layer and the RAM layer - an assumption that's obviously broken when you have a laptop handling the compute + RAM, and an external hard drive connected by USB cable.
