So, uh, I am now going to stop applying to fed jobs - but might as well reshare this anyway. Open to any leads on work! VERY HAPPY to relocate! Won't use this resume format, obviously.

This resume format is used for US federal jobs; it's not the format I'd use for a private-sector role. However, it *is* highly detailed (understatement), so it's at least a good overview of all my relevant skills and experience.

As I get into the sexual selection and sexual dimorphism part of my evolution module, a reminder:

In Northern Cardinals, the males are bright red. The females are a brown/gray, with orange beaks.

So if you see two bright red birds snuggling together on wrapping paper or a card: they're gay.

I can confirm that knowing Rathalos’ moves in Great Hunt was a mixed bag. On the one hand, yes, I could see what was coming. OTOH, I wasn’t able to avoid it as my muscle memory wanted me to, because 14 doesn’t provide the mobility that MH does.

Yes, but we don’t have app-based, and tbh at this point even that’s kind of old tech. “Industry standard” account security is increasingly moving to passkey-based. Email-based is turn-of-the-century.

Also, if you have multiple accounts, you can’t even use the same email account for both.

I still remember back in 2023, when we were told that industry-standard methods of MFA were considered a “must have” before invite codes could be deprecated.

We still don’t have that.

I know those two have a list of minimum reqs of any social media/user-generated content app, and those reqs go beyond simply curtailing actually-illegal content. (See also: The recent outcry about Steam removing non-illegal games, etc.)

That was my understanding—and I’m 100% asspulling this, but I feel like the current situation may be partially resultant from Apple and Google demanding a greater degree of centralized moderation in order to be allowed on their respective app stores.

This dichotomy can actually apply to many forms of media. Most people think the first Knights of the Old Republic game is better than the second, but among diehards the second is more revered. Etc.

It’s the “long dash” used to add a parenthetical into the middle of a sentence. I use them a lot. The machines—or anyone else, for that matter—can prise them from my cold, dead hands.

Ive told this story before, and been met with outright condescension by fediverse stans. Been told I was “signing up wrong.” Had my intelligence directly insulted. I know enough to know that behavior isn’t exemplary of everyone on the fediverse—but it definitely isn’t a complete anomaly, either.

The whole experience felt like a disorganized mess, and honestly that’s what caused me to bounce off: Not that I couldn’t understand it, but more along the lines of “do I really want to go through with this, despite these red flags?”

Whole categories were listed with 0 servers to choose from. I was offered a “regional” server dedicated to Belgium. (Nothing against Belgium, but I’m not Belgian. I’ve never set foot in Belgium, and I wasn’t on a VPN.)

I do feel like the barrier of entry turns a lot of people off—not just because it’s complicated, but also because it’s sometimes nonsensical. When I tried to sign up, I was offered a list of servers to choose from, sorted by category—and the list was…silly.
