It is at once one of the most stunning feats of memory (for a very few who are wired that way, doable with great effort, but impossible for most) and--as with the Talmud memory masters of old, a tribute to a literally conservative vision of scholarship.

The Vedas were transmitted orally from the ancient sages and have managed to be transmitted to modern times almost entirely without error introduction, which is *wild*. this is due to the way that it was memorized and recited and taught to future generations. You chant with tones and hand gestures
