Last night we found the sequel to the ‘abominable Dr Phibes’ equally insane, and so over the top by Vincent price who heads to Egypt to harness the ancient river of life to resurrect his dead wife Victoria in ‘Dr Phibes rises again.’

This seems an interesting prospect and if true a potentially very exciting discovery because you would expect, if it is intact, to be full of wonders.

More insights and lost traditions from Poirot. We really should bring back police Constable, blue, elbow length shoulder capes. They look magnificent when the chasing Johnny criminal.

In fact the only series I remember set around this time with equally lively costumes, at least, was the ‘house of Elliot’ I remember this as a young teenager as I had a crush on Louise Lombard at the time.

I wonder if there was a reason for this? I am now starting series 3 and the first episode is the ‘mysterious affair at styles.’ So it appears we are beginning the books. The series is very good so far, a the costume and the sets are really, rather lovely.

The Poirot watching is going well but I was surprised to discover that through the entire first 2 series (approx 16 episodes) there was only one novel adaptation and this was towards the end of the second series, which was ‘peril at end house.’ This seems extraordinary.

I have begun another TV challenge and am in the 2nd of 70 episodes of David suchet as Poirot. I have seen some but wasn’t really into them at the time. Even after 2 episodes these costumes are incredible.

The mist has truly descended! Brief trip to the shops and I was reminded if I stayed too long I’d probably one of those expendable characters in a Stephen king novel.

In 1949 this mother had just told her daughter off for answering the door dressed like this as it was indecent. Imagine her face now on a Saturday night in notts!

I first visited here in August on the way through to Northumberland. I also took in bishops Auckland. Durham is one of those city’s I would happily move to tomorrow. It looked lovely, but this photo looks even more lovely!

His head is only on coins because they couldn’t fit his enormous body on as well.
Absolutely stunning coin shared by the awesome @doccrom.bsky.social of a gold coin minted for #Vitellius. Now, there is also a really good video by @ljtrafford.bsky.social in which she talks just about this event.

Thanks Doc Crom and all the best for 2026!
Likely #OnThisDay - 3 January or thereabouts - in AD 69 the legions of Colonia and Mainz refuse to swear allegiance to Galba, instead declaring for the governor of Lower Germany, Aulus Vitellius. #AncientHistory 🏺

There are so many mobility scooters parked outside this coffee shop haphazardly. It is like the oldest chapter of the hells angels have descended. I feel so youthful in here. I am sure were he still alive Tom Sharpe would have written a wilt novel involving mobility scooters.

Knives out: dead man walking is a jolly romp. A little darker than the gloriously insane glass onion, but the actors all pull their weight well. Even if the saddest part was near the end when Daniel Craig and Jeffrey wright stood together and my mind went Felix and bond areback

Apropos of nothing but listening to a podcast on film who go a bit of History when the film was released . Today’s film was 1965 which saw the establishment of the UKS’s first Pizza Hut in London, and KFC in Preston in Lancashire.

Had a sore throat start on Friday afternoon and it continued on Saturday so when to bed at 8pm last night. Feel like I’ve been hit by a truck so have been in bed all day. Just beginning to feel a little bit human. Not the weekend I had planned.

At least the wind has decided it is bored and has disappeared back to whence it came from. The light drizzle and grey blanket remains to taunt us. All we are missing is James Herbert’s fog, or a Stephen king mist.
