By making Krypton a planet of cloning and eugenics, it really created a deeper story. I'd be fine extending it to the comics, tbh. (5/5)

When his coup fails he and his troops are sentenced to somatic reconditioning in the phantom zone. They don't kill him, because they see him as a tool that is broken. All they need to do is send him to hell for 300 years to reprogram him. And if Jor was still alive he'd have been sent, too. (4/5)

Zod was birthed explicitly to be the general of Krypton's military. Everything he does is explicitly to protect and preserve Krypton. That's why he attempts a coup, his mental math says the biggest threat is the council. He and Jor are friends, Jor told him about the planet blowing up. (3/5)

Jorel says that Kal is Krypton's first natural birth in centuries. Everyone else comes from clone pods, fed by the codex. Everyone is made to fulfill a purpose, so during the climactic fight between Superman and Zod, he says protecting Krypton was his life's purpose. He's not being poetic. (2/5)
