Birds are real, but if it came to light that black skimmers are government drones... I wouldn't be that surprised.

A bird in flight through a salt marsh. It's wings are upturned, revealing it's stark white underside and hiding it's black back and wings. The bill is long and black with and orange patch at it's base. Black skimmers have black eyes that blend in well with their plumage, giving them an odd look.

Spanish moss hangs from the oak. A similar scene to the first photo with a hooded merganser floating in the water beneath the anhinga. A closeup of the anhinga with outstretched wings, drying itself after a swim. Anhinga feathers do not repel water like other birds, which is why they are often seen sunning themselves in this manner.

My first tagged bird! I was so stoked to see this looking back through these shots, I hadn't noticed it in the field. I never got a good photo of the plover but being able to send in my first ever report made up for it.

Close up of a green anole (Anolis Carolinensis). Of note is the striking teal coloring of the eyelid surrounded by the patchy brown and green scales and contrasted by the dark brown eye. I had never noticed this coloration before taking this photo. An eastern copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix) snake moving along the leaf litter of a North Carolina preserve. It lifts its head by a spiny sweet gum ball. A broadhead skink (Plestiodon laticeps) with a copper-brown body and a bright red face suns itself on a concrete block in a local public garden. It tucks its spindly legs back, almost giving the illusion of a snake. A closeup of the same broadhead skink (Plestiodon laticeps) against a green background, still lazing on concrete. The red coloration is brightest along the lips, mixing into a deep red-brown at the crown of its head. From this angle one can count the scales on the upper lip, 8 - maybe 9- in total with the sixth scale touching the eye. This is the dead giveaway for the broadhead, as its lookalike cousins have differing number to their scales.

I think a marbled godwit? I took this a year ago, which was the last time I got out with my camera. I hadn't even looked at the shot for a year as I got into my head about the quality of my photography. Lurking around this site has inspired me to pick it back up again, so here we go!
