When I'm not avidly doom-scrolling I am gardening, hiking, making and studying textile arts, making digital art related to nature, being one of the "ladies who lunch" with close friends and asking my cat what I can do to make her more comfortable.
#ArtAdventCalendar #Beadwork Inspired by Ukrainian style beaded netting, it would be a "RBG" type necklace but it's too colorful. Once you get the hang of the pattern it's very relaxing to work on, the curve needs to fit your neck. Day 17.

#ArtAdventCalendar #PointReyes #fog #digitalart This is from several years ago, a day when the fog was so thick it looked like dusk in the middle of the day. The trees have come in very handy in other experiments with overlaid images. Day 16.

#ArtAdventCalandar #CountedThread #Embroidery Day 15. This piece was for a San Francisco School of Needlework and Design stitching contest. I'm not sure I like the bland color or the mix of sharp and flowing lines, but the gems were free to anyone wishing to stitch with them. A learning experience.

#ArtAdventCalendar #DigitalCollage #NoKings #TeslaTakedown When I attend protests I take as many sign photos as I can, then spend the next weeks removing identifying features and grouping random signs together. I love that it's a record of what was said by my neighbors as well as an art project.

#ArtAdventCalendar #CellPhonePhotography #mirror
I love what can be seen in mirrors. In this case, the mirror is resting on my toilet seat and what's reflected are the houseplants in my window. I've been fighting the ants from outside of them all winter; they want to farm scale on my philodendron!

#ArtAdventCalendar #basrelief #moldingpaste This is from an online class I took with Maria Grossbaum. Molding paste with extra stiffening mounted on tiny two-inch canvases. I should make more, I have a large supply of stiffener (a particular brand of toilet paper!) Day 11.

#ArtAdventCalendar #beading A collection of beaded shapes I made years ago. Too much blue, now needs embroidered constellations of white stitched stars as a focal point.

#ArtAdventCalendar #sashiko #embroidery The upper left is a traditional pattern, the rest are based on outlines of real leaves found in my neighborhood. All waiting to be incorporated into something else. Sashiko is very relaxing, especially if you do freestyle shapes. Day 9.

#ArtAdventCalendar #digitalart #Procreate My weird little hobby is creating interlocking shape brushes in Procreate, then I see how many different styles of patterns and color combinations I can come up with. A good middle of the night art project that soothes me back to sleep afterwards. Day 8.

#ArtAdventCalendar #mixedmedia Digital art based on plastic construction area mesh and lace bits. Printed on fabric with beads, embroidery and stuffed pebble shapes added. #7

#ArtAdventCalendar #digitalcollage A digital collage featuring gazania flowers and mostly circular repeat patterns made by using various programs on my I-Pad. Day 6. Will return to physical stuff tomorrow.

#ArtAdventCalendar Posterized photo of a flock of “tomato tree” fruit (yes I know it’s not an actual tomato and not an actual flock as well) Day 5 I believe. One of my earlier experiments in a digital art on the I-Pad class taught by Susie Monday.

#ArtAdventCalendar #PointReyes #CaliforniaWildflowers California wild pea, more scientifically known as Lathyrus vestitus. This is one of the lighter ones I have seen. Photo probably from Bear Valley Trail in Point Reyes. The straight leaves are probably non-native crocosmia. Day 4 of AAC.

#ArtAdventCalendar #beadwork #mixedmedia Day 3. Mixed media, beads, yarn-wrapped washers on a 2"x2" painted canvas background. These are all older art projects, more recently the well of creativity seems to have run dry. We'll see if 31 postings of older projects will prime the pump....

#ArtAdventCalendar. #embossedmetal Day 2. This is an embossed sheet of very thin metal that I made in a class taught by Judy Coates Perez several years ago. Much as I hate my own garden snails, I make an exception for this one.

When she goes circular we know we are looking forward to several hours of not being managed or interrupted. A good long catnap is expected. Any other position means she will become restless soon and demand food or attention. #caturday

here's the current little bit of illegal propaganda featured on the usda.gov website:

Nova has been known to sleep with one eye open “just in case”. She’s missing one hind leg and sleeps with the other sticking straight out. If you say “how’s your tail” when she is asleep it thumps automatically.

daisy tree, from the bottom looking up. It really is a tree, or a large rangy perennial shrub, I forget what its scientific name is. It makes a great substitute for the sunflowers that I plant and either they die or a squirrel eats them before the seeds have even matured.

my new hobby, making collages of protest signs. Here are a few from the April 19 Berkeley #TeslaTakedown. #digital_collage. The rest of them here: y-knotblog.blogspot.com/2025/04/prot....

Moth, photo from last summer in Occidental, CA. Hyles lineata according to Wikipedia, aka white-lined sphinx or hummingbird moth #insectThursday. These critters are big, with a wingspan wider than my hand.

Violet in her usual judgmental mood, lying down on the table where she knows she doesn't belong, just to see if she can get away with it.
