Skip the attitude of gratitude platitudes.
The phrase “be grateful” still hits a nerve. It was one of the spiritual bypasses I grew up with in Mormonism, used to silence pain instead of hold it.
These days, I’m practicing integrative gratitude, the kind that makes space for both grief and goodness

For those who’ve left a high control religion like LDS/Mormonism, SDA, Evangelical, JW or Christian fundamentalism, your religious trauma might feel triggered right now by what’s happening in the US. Project 2-0-2-5 is the blueprint for what’s happening, and it’s based in Christian patriarchy 1/2

Leaving a high control religion, like the LDS/Mormon church, unravels identity. Here’s a poem about slowly becoming myself in the aftermath.

Maybe he missed the lesson on what Easter is about?

This is a great example of what it actually means to “take the lords name in vain” ie. using it to harm others and lift yourself above them.

Easter is celebrated at the spring equinox— winter into spring, days are equally light & dark. Symbols of rebirth and renewal of life for plants, trees, and animals. Different religions’ use themes of resurrection.
I have risen, above the dark depths of despair and into the lightness of wholeness.

Religious trauma is often activated around religious holidays. Part of reclaiming can be recognizing that ostara has been celebrated thousands of years before it was co-opted by Christianity!

My active LDS mother accused me of being “a socialist” the other day. Mam, I learned socialism from my LDS upbringing!
Jesus said feed the hungry, why is wanting do to that over amassing riches “socialism”? Isn’t that just true Christianity??

When Bernie ran in 2015, I was so hopeful for a move towards a country that works for all people, not just the wealthy. I can only imagine what trajectory our country would be on if he hadn’t been sidelined by the DNC. I don’t know what this momentum means yet, but it is encouraging.
The crowd and overflow crowd for the Bernie Sanders/AOC event tonight in Utah.

Wow.
