This Red-breasted Merganser was feeding on the lower Ogmore Estuary, this morning. A scarce bird at the site, with maybe one every five years or so.

A spellbinding display from six Sabine's Gulls at Jackstones Pier, Aberavon. Incredible to witness at close quarters. Little Tern, Black Tern and two Grey Phalaropes also present.

A record shot of one of two Sabine's Gulls off Porthcawl this morning. This is the best gull, and I'll take no dissent.

No ***** given with these bad boys!

Superb shot, what a spectacle!

What the heck, a few more shots of the two Grey Phalaropes at Ogmore Estuary, including the moment one was almost taken by a Peregrine, escaping by submersion. Phew!

Two Grey Phalaropes, pictured at Ogmore Estuary this evening. Earlier an Arctic Tern was present, in context a much scarcer bird at the site historically.

A dispersing juvenile Dartford Warbler was in gorse along the Dunraven approach road this morning. Stonechats were still feeding young in the vicinity and a juvenile Spotted Flycatcher was in the walled gardens.

Superb video, Rob, bravo!

A lovely morning to call in on my local Wood Warblers, with three territories at this particular site.

Possibly Rubus ‘Benenden’? I recall seeing this used as a landscape plant at Sale Water Park. A good looker indeed.

While watching owls a pair of Grey Partridges crept furtively past the car, but I think they were on to me.

Time well spent watching hunting Short-eared Owls in the wilds of North Lincolnshire (while away there for work).

A double rainbow in the wake of a heavy shower at Ogmore, this evening.

Another look at Ogmore Estuary's Bonaparte's Gull, the little smasher! #birdingWales

The rather splendid 1st-winter Bonaparte's Gull at Ogmore Estuary, well found by @tomwright1.bsky.social This is the third of this species I've seen at the site, albeit the first non-adult.

They’re ‘ok’ here, but reproduced considerably better in terms of fine detail on the other channel, in a side by side comparison. Thanks though 🙏

I’m not happy with the resolution my photos are being reproduced at on this site, at least on the mobile application. It’s not doing them justice, I’m afraid, so will be posting on Twitter/X for the time being. Will review going forward.

Some of the Mediterranean Gulls currently hanging out along the promenade at Porthcawl.

Firecrest and Siberian Chiffchaff from Merthyr Mawr Warren, this morning. The recent Yellow-browed Warbler was a no-show but could still be around.
