I pray to god that they come down.

I can do a whole lot of math in my head. I do it for fun.

Give me a pen and paper, and I can do more and do it faster.

Give me a calculator and 3x that speed.

A computer, 10x that speed.

With AI it feels like 5x all of it.

Yes and no.

Half the time yes.

It’s the speed and ease of it. Feels like using a calculator for thinking in terms of setting up problems or analysis.

Takes me a third of the time to do some of the work that I’d do before. Or, it’s something new for me that I rely on its help for.

Can we get a math expert on the pod at some point to discuss this very topic?

Really disagreed with @sashamtl.bsky.social on the calculator comments.

On their own, the models are terrible at math. True.

Ask ChatGPT to calculate using python, and it is incredible at math and data analysis.

Add in the ability to set up the math “word” problem, and it’s beyond a calculator.
