As electric companies can tell when an EV is charging why not tax at power source. Alternatively consumption indicates mileage Elec companies could report mileage

I am not sneering Ann, my wife was also affected but we were both aware if the impending change when it was made because we followed the news.

You mean they didn’t take enough interest in how the elected government was managing the taxes they paid so they didn’t see the changes in the law. Now they are expecting compensation for their lack of interest.

So 34% is a subsidy to business and industry and housing benefit is paid to those on universal credit so that is an addition subsidy te B& I. If you are suggesting pension cuts consider that pensioners today paid the pensions of previous generations willingly.

1. Isnt this rooted in the cost of land? High land costs creates high business costs as a return on capital is fed into business accounts. 2. Finance industry has played a major part in making money available. As a boomer we could only borrow 3 times one salary.

I think you are missing the point being made. In reality govt relies on families and communities supporting those in need and as long as that happens they can turn a blind eye to tax avoidance The rich isolate themselves from such communities.

One purpose of taxation is to stop the rich getting too powerful. They are great believers in redistribution of wealth, but its trickle up not down.

We have traded Polish plumbers for Indian and Nigerian care workers. And European culture for Asian and African culture. Brexiteers wanted a more British Britain and have instead been sold out. That is why the Tories lost.

So the UK was a soft touch for those looking for high rewards from investing. In other words it was about what they could take out of the country not what their business would contribute to our nation.
