DEI ensures that QUALIFIED POCs have a chance to succeed. Chances that weren't afforded to them previously.

DEI is simply an attempt to correct racist practices in this country by giving POCs the same opportunities and outcomes as white people who have long-benefitted from belonging to the in-group in this country.

If you said the latter, then you are proving that DEI is still very much necessary in this country that you probably claim isn't racist anymore. DEI isn't, as you likely believe, hiring unqualified minorities over highly qualified white people in order to meet a quota.

Imagine you have a DIVERSE pool of 50 EQUALLY qualified applicants for a job. What's more discriminatory? Target hiring five white men from the pool of equally qualified people? Or Target hiring a diverse, proportionate group of five equally qualified men and women?
