Men in balaclavas set fire to a mosque in East Sussex last night. It's only appearing on the BBC's local coverage, rather than its main national headlines, despite coming just a week after the (also under-reported) firebombing of an asylum hotel in London last week

To say that you will ‘have to volunteer’ to be eligible for settled status even if working full time as a doctor or nurse for example is not really volunteering because it would not be voluntary. The govt should call it something else if they want to enforce it.

Baffled by my former ability to update social media sites regularly. I have become chronically long form. Empty headed unless operating at about 10k words. Can’t tell if this is good or bad.

'Bad Taste' by @nrolah.bsky.social: a trenchant critique of the dominant aesthetics of contemporary everyday life and how they express and reiterate modes of class power. Both sharp and vivid, ranging effortlessly across cultural forms

Have you read Richard Hoggart? I find it so interesting to think about how this stuff really started to take a hold in the UK in the 50s. I feel like I'm constantly butting up against an attitude that is ultimately protective of american imperialism because it is formative and nostalgic.
