I feel that a lot; I try my best to reach out, say I love a mutual's art, and just leave it at that unless they want to keep talking. Especially commissioners, I feel 1/4 of my friends are people who have commissioned me before.
Also, never hurts to ask if comms are open!

I agree with that, yes, but most people (including me sometimes) don't tend to look closer than a face value impression, even I slip up on accidentally liking something like that due to just scrolling mindlessly instead of looking closer. It's pretty unfortunate.

It's kind of hard to explain my end of things to non-artists, but, most of those pieces feel... off, in a way.
Like the character is in a background or setting that doesn't fit at all, there's no life or character you can assess from the piece itself, it's a nothing burger of a piece to consume.

Even if there was a button that says "reveal person's address" I don't think they leaving, it sucks a lot knowing nobody wants to kickstart from the ground up on a pretty decent alternative.
