The protests ended in the streets, but the resistance hasn’t. Everyday defiance continues in Iran. Don't miss the latest Iran Reckoning episode with Afshon Ostovar (@osto.bsky.social) and Nilo Tabrizy (@ntabrizy.bsky.social).

My story for @wired today: The MAGA movement is breaking up families - some have even decided to go “no contact” with their Trump supporting parents. But there’s a few who are trying to re-establish common ground, through “book clubs”

People Are Trying to ‘Deprogram’ Their MAGA Parents Through Book Clubs
Divisive politics have led people to go “no contact” with their MAGA parents. Some hope reading together could help bridge the gap.

Our investigation into the explosion in #BandarAbbas — it was likely caused by a violent chemical reaction that resulted in a fire and led to the blast.

Big team effort w/ @megkelly.bsky.social @yjtorbati.bsky.social & Susannah George

Whooping cough continues to surge in the U.S., with reported cases at 32,000 this year — nearly 5x the 6,500 cases recorded during the same period last year — marking the highest levels in a decade.

Health experts cite waning vaccination rates and a loss of broad immunity tracing to lockdowns.

It is so meaningful to see how much print space @washingtonpost.com dedicated to this story. Our Native American boarding schools investigation is on the front page and the full report has its own 8 page custom section 🧡

Our year-long investigation found that more than 3,100 children died at boarding schools between 1828 and 1970 and that more than 800 of those students are buried in cemeteries at or near the schools they attended. wapo.st/3DnIr9q

Here’s how we found our evidence.
More than 3,100 students died at schools built to crush Native American cultures
The Post’s year-long investigation found that three times as many Native American students had died at boarding schools between 1828 and 1970 as the U.S. government had previously reported.

The government’s final report identified 74 burial sites while acknowledging that the numbers are incomplete. The Post documented 66 additional cemeteries where students were buried at or near former boarding schools. Here’s our detailed methodology: wapo.st/3DnIr9q

In 1912, 10-year-old Daniel Nicholai died after being shot in the lungs during a tragic accident. He was a student at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Mission School. A local historian told us that his gravesite is likely disturbed due to railroad construction.

Fire swept through the wooden dormitory of St. Joseph’s Mission School in Idaho in 1925 and killed six students, according to reports. Their death certificates indicate that they were buried right beside the school at the mission cemetery wapo.st/3DnIr9q

We used historical maps, death certificates and census rolls to locate students and possible burial sites, and used cartographic regression, a process comparing maps over time, to help identify burial sites.
