I don’t think either assumption is inherently wrong. It really is a personal decision. Only you and a partner, if you have one, can make that decision. Don’t let what others think is best keep you from making the choice that’s right for you.

Yes I am making more on my money if I invest it or set it aside. BUT it is more beneficial for me to achieve my goals to work towards paying that loan down faster and freeing up cash flow.

But I am starting to look at buying a house. When I run the numbers I have a good amount saved but I don’t have as much as I’d like in income. That’s where the student loan debt is really hindering.

One recent example is how I look at my debt. I have several thousand in student loans. I’ve been looking at paying extra towards the loan as not very beneficial since current market returns and HYSA rates are higher than my loan interest rate.
