There is a full-blown radiological contamination incident in Indonesia apparently caused by scrap metal smelting that volatilized cesium-137 from a radiation source that should not have been there, contaminating shipments of frozen shrimp and cloves.

Cikande's Recovery from Cs-137 Radiation Could Take Months
The government has not yet been able to determine how long the Task Force will take to restore the Cikande Industrial Area from cesium-137 radiation. However, the situation is claimed to still be unde...

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is "closed" but "critical" activities, including those outlined in Executive Order 14300, will continue. I can't find the lapse plan online, but this seems to mean that public meetings on advanced #nuclear reactors today have not been canceled. nrc.gov/pmns/mtg

This month an employee brought beer to the Davis-Besse #nuclear reactor in #Ohio, and personnel failed drug tests at Watts Bar in #Tennessee and South #Texas. If you worked at one of the "Terrible Thirteen," you might want to forget your troubles too. blog.ucs.org/edwin-lyman/...
The Terrible 13: The Worst Safety and Security Violators in the US Nuclear Power Fleet
The US public deserves to have a clear understanding of the safety and security of the nation’s 54 nuclear plant sites (with a total of 94 operating nuclear reactors): and in particular, the plants th...

Energoatom reports that the Zaporizhzhia #nuclear plant has lost all off-site power today for the 10th time since the Russian invasion. A precarious situation.
The July scram of the Watts Bar-2 #nuclear plant in #Tennessee was caused when water dripping through a hole in the roof short-circuited a breaker, shutting down multiple coolant pumps and the main turbine. TVA, fix the darned roof before buying SMRs. www.nrc.gov/docs/ML2525/...

Seven allegations have already been filed at the Palisades #nuclear plant in #Michigan this calendar year and the reactor hasn't even been restarted yet. What is going on there?

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission wants to slash the number of hours it spends inspecting #nuclear reactor safety. security, and emergency preparedness by 34 percent beginning January 1, 2026. There is no justification for such a major cut to its inspections.

On Saturday the Hatch-2 #nuclear reactor in #Georgia was manually scrammed at 70 percent power when both reactor recirculation pumps stopped working during a test of the main turbine control valve. The reactor was still down this morning.
Yesterday an Unusual Event was declared for nearly two hours at the Oconee-1 #nuclear reactor in #SouthCarolina when the reactor coolant system developed a leak of 26 gallons per minute during maintenance of a letdown filter.
The source of the cesium-137 that tainted the shrimp exports from Indonesia may have come from contaminated scrap metal. This makes a lot of sense and also underscores how sloppy handling of medical radiation sources can have wide-ranging impacts.

I don't usually post one-sided stories but I cannot find any comment by Ukraine or IAEA yet.

I don't believe either side would intentionally target the plant. This is most likely collateral damage from drones that have been jammed or shot down.
This takes the word "lunacy" to a whole new level
Dominion says it is planned maintenance, according to Platts.
If they had financing, they would have mentioned it. Perhaps they think Trump will be so flattered he will order Congress to give the project $80 billion.
Is there any evidence that this company has secured even a fraction of the tens of billions in financing it would need for those four AP1000s?
Yes indeed, xenon poisoning
On Tuesday the Susequehanna-1 #nuclear reactor in #Pennsylvania was manually scrammed at full power after the main transformer experienced a cooling loss. The reactor is still down today. Should be a warning to Amazon about the reliability of this plant to power its data center.
9/9. Strong and independent nuclear oversight protects not only the public but also the industry. Just imagine the worldwide reaction if a serious accident occurred at a new reactor in the United States because a safety problem was overlooked in the NRC's rush to license.
8/9. These changes will damage NRC's reputation among other nations as a “gold standard” regulator and lead them to distrust its safety approvals of US #nuclear technologies.
