Agree. Its such an inexact science , predicting whether or not a manager will be a success at a club. All top managers have a failure on their CV. Likewise , a lot of managerial frauds have a success on their CV .

The test for him, I guess, is his capacity to learn through experience and build on his knowledge. Its a seldom mentioned attribute but its hugely important. Howe is a great example at nufc. Did a great job at Bournemouth but was said to be weak at organising a defence . He's great at that now..

Our fanbase can be fantastically dysfunctional, too. FWIW, I think Martins a terrible manager, completely wedded to a style of play , regardless of the merits of the players at his disposal. It was painful watching Southampton in the PL under him.
