I think a case for tedium can be found in both, but their success is relative to their intent. Speaking partially to what you said, often when trying to streamline process, you remove choice to reduce uncertainty. And with it you remove interest in the tedium.

When I wrote about difficulty I made a distinction between 'player considerate' and 'player conscious'. The former being systems that cater to the player out of hopes that comfort will maintain player interest. While the latter is aware of the player, but makes no concessions in its design.

oh ok. yea it's been lower since XY but still rare. afaik the games where they appear in the overworld feel different cause u see more rolls at a faster rate but the odds are the same

especially since he'd left HAL right after Air Ride, and in an interview mentioned the industry's constant expectation for sequels and lack of care for creative development. So this game feels poetic in a way, and I think these presentations show how much the opportunity means to him

I normally dont care about presentations but this def made me more excited. And I think it was important for him. He wants it made abundantly clear what his intentions are with this title, and I appreciate his openness in this game being really more of a 2nd chance with Air Ride than a sequel
