Escándalos recientes como el Qatargate, el caso Huawei o la condena a Marine Le Pen han sacudido al Parlamento Europeo y acelerado reformas en materia de transparencia. Un nuevo estudio de las investigadoras Nuria Font y Cristina Ares examina cómo influyen la tradición democrática de los países de origen y la pertenencia a partidos populistas en las actitudes de los eurodiputados hacia la rendición de cuentas, revelando tensiones profundas entre culturas políticas y exigencias institucionales.

I show that issue relevance in MEPs' domestic public agenda and individual issue expertise increase digital attention to the three policy issues during the 2019 EP campaign, while parties' sociocultural position only affects attention to climate/environment

We show that MEPs from mainstream and populist parties coming from countries with strong democratic accountability display distinctive transparency-related practices. Mainstream MEPs supply more transparency and populist MEPs demand more transparency.
