Here is a leftover comic from the #IODP Expedition 405 from last year.

This one is based on @callanbentley.bsky.social's spaghetti noodle analogy to convey the depth we had to reach.

This one is about LWD (which gave me PTSD from my time with Schlumberger).

Last photo dump from earlier this month.
1 - The long walk on the Dungeness Spit.
2 - The lighthouse.
3 - Jonathan on the light tower.
4 - On the flight back home, I think I took a snapshot of Mount Adams (foreground), Mount Hood (mid-ground), and Mount Jefferson (in the far distance). 🌋

More photos from early June from North Bend~
1 - Went to Washington after Juneau. Jonathan climbed and I shortroped (and worried).

2 - More climbers on Little Si.

3 - We stayed with uncle Dave and Sue (and PeeWee)!

4 - From a glorious long walk in North Bend.

More May photos from Alaska!

More photos from late April/early May: Austria travels for EGU. Semmering hike and mostly Vienna memories.

Welp. I disassociated and now it’s June. I’ll share some photos and comics from April & May in a way to not feel bad about suddenly realizing half the year disappeared.

April was a lot of Texas travel. One of the trips was for the College Station, to the Gulf Coast Core Repository (GCR).

More Japan photos (after IODP 405)

1 - Before we docked. We ended up sitting near Shimizu for a day.
2 - Our welcome party included the town mascot (which was a seal, I think)
3 - Kamakura! I will go back one day (to take reference photos, collect the temple stamps, and also go to Enoshima)

I forgot to make one of these. Almost a month late, but here is my 2024 Art vs Artist thing (along with the last two years)

I like making these because it gives me an excuse to sit down and figure out what I did the year before (and what I enjoyed illustrating).

Thank you! I shot them on a FujiFilm XS20. It’s a digital camera. I do love FujiFilm’s colors so much.

More December photos!

1- Got to see @aikosmith.com one more time in 2024.

2- The art installation we saw at Ginza Six by Kenji Yanobe. It's called "Big Cat Bang".

3- The Urasawa drawing in question. Touching something Urasawa physically touched grants you drawing superpowers, right? (Right?!)

Some more memories from last month:

1- After coming back to land and separating from friends, I did a day trip to Kawagoe and visited some temples.

2- This was the entrance of the Ten’nenji Temple (1554).

3-The long flight back was dark, but... Houston-to-Austin connection had pretty skies.

Taking a break from expedition stuff! Here are some photos from Crux South:

1- Pre-Japan, I was practicing lead climbing and belaying (and short-roping Jonathan)

2- The boy in his happy place.

3- Crux South closed this week. We climbed there for the last time on the 28th. It was sad to leave.

For the last few weeks, I was on the drill ship #Chikyu for the #IODP Expedition 405! Our goal was gathering data and samples to understand tsunamigenic slip across the Japan Trench.

Here's an emo comic about saying goodbye during crew changes.
