I fully expect coding agents will someday respond to a prompt with “I can see where you’re going with this, but I have a better idea,” and they’ll implement it while you’re still reacting to it. “See? Like this. What do you think? Better, huh?"

400 years ago, Jubilee Marsh was walled off from the sea and stopped being a saltwater marsh. In the mid-2000s, the Royal Society for the Protection Of Birds bought the land and decided to ‘rewet’ the marsh. Just letting the sea back in wouldn’t be enough though — the land had sunk — but in […]

“A teacher heard one child using these words to describe the computer work: ‘It’s fun. It’s hard. It’s Logo.’ I have no doubt that this kid called the work fun because it was hard rather than in spite of being hard.

Once I was alerted to the concept of ‘hard fun’ I began listening for it and […]

Now, *that's* what AI should be doing, instead of writing buggy programs and hallucinating wrong answers.

As somebody said once, I want AI to wash the dishes, so that I can write poetry; I don't want to wash the dishes so that AI can write poetry.

Dragged myself through William Alexander’s Sunward, which is “Science Fiction” but I only managed to keep going by pretending it was a novelization of a Wes Anderson movie (I think he’d do a pretty good job with this one actually.)

It was not to my liking but did remind me of other works that […]

Anyway, on the shortest days of the year, as we reach peak darkness, I (and maybe many of us?) need reminders to find the joy when I can.

And starting today/tomorrow, we get a little bit more light each day. That is something worth celebrating, even a little bit.

Thanks for indulging me this am

Google Gemini has a “watch this YouTube video for me,” which works… really well?

(Of course Claude is blocked from accessing YouTube content. That’s not a problem for anyone, I’m sure.)

In case you’re not familiar with the iconic, Akira-style music video for Ken Ishii's “Extra” from his 1995 album Jelly Tones, directed by acclaimed anime director and animator Koji Morimoto. Warning: the video is very weird and violent 😬

The Spotify thought I might like this song. I saw Ken Ishii perform it live with Co-Fusion in an underground club in Sendai towards the end our year working as a JET in Japan. We completely just stumbled across a flyer, bought tickets, went to the show, and it was amazing. It was so fucking […]
