Little birds are not intimidated by this redtail, at all. Kept buzzing it, no matter the perch it flew to. Eventually the hawk flew off, tired of the harassment.
Green-Wood Cemetery, the best place for bird drama.

This group of Black Crowned Night Herons has been showing up along the canal all summer, so happy to see them! I counted 6 tucked in along the 3rd st. turning basin, Gary saw 7 earlier. Their rookery must be nearby - hope they stick around!

Looking for some fun on the water before summer truly ends? This Sunday’s gorgeous weather is the perfect excuse to get out in a canoe for our free walk-up paddling at 19th St!

Looking good, duck friend.

Spent the morning birding, thinking about capturing this sparkle two years ago - birds caught in the tribute in lights at the 9/11 memorial. Volunteers from @nycbirdalliance.org keep an eye on the concentration of birds, and radio to get the lights paused when there are too many caught in the beams

Go see this film!! It’s so wonderfully done and a great glimpse into a quickly changing neighborhood.
Please join us at @bklynlibrary.bsky.social's Center for Brooklyn History for a FREE special screening of Gowanus Current on July 23. We will do a talkback after the film.

Favorite way yet to watch fireworks. From a canoe with friends and a flock of geese.

Pride Paddle with @gowanusdredgers.bsky.social is always a magical evening. Even if I did somehow lose my polarizer mid-paddle. Ooops!

Is it weird to say one of my favorite views in the city is from a bridge that shakes with traffic under the BQE?

Goslings in the rain. Geese pick the strangest places to nest.

Hiya grump ya hermit thrush.

Spotted many warblers and got no pictures but enjoyed the hour or so I had to wander around anyway.

I have a lot of bad photos of birds from today, but also this delightful capture of a squirrel who looked like they were trying out for Cirque du Soleil. I missed it's fun hang-upsidedown-by-the-feet-and-snack move but I like the counter balance of this one :-P

This was a family of 9 over the weekend, these 3 are the last left (Snapping turtles likely got the rest) Another mallard came over and was harassing the family, mom went to go take care of business, leaving these cute little fuzzballs to chase after her. 😍 #birds #greenwoodcemetary #brooklynbirding

May 7th 2024. One of my favorite days birding of last year. Ran into @citybirder.bsky.social and a termite hatch out. Temps had been rising, migration was in full swing. We were so surrounded, a bird landed on Michael. It was a good day. Tracking temps to try to catch it again. 🤞

I guess grackles blink their awesome yellow eyes when they scream at each other because every photo I have of this one in action looks possessed. 🤣

Love a good grackle catching the light.

I wish for the calm joy of a sun drunk cat stretching out to soak in the last rays of the morning.

Fern may look tough but really she’s yawning and about to flop over to warm her belly floof.

It’s funny to look through photos I discarded as not what I was going for with the distance of time. New appreciation and also makes my file hoarder tendencies worse. 😳

Flamingos are weird.

I’m seeing posts about the #BlueskyArtShow - Today's theme is #Reflections so here’s one of my favorites. The ever changing #gowanus at sunset. Taking this photo made me a little late to a dentist appointment but I regret nothing.

If you have a chance to take the educational tour at the Sunset Park recycling facility - DO IT! It’s super fun and informative, and you get to see the sorting in action. The scale of the place is really astounding. So glad I was able to schedule it for @gowanusdredgers.bsky.social volunteers
