Trump's Biggest "Fuck You" Yet to Higher Education and the Rest of the World
He and his regime are mounting an assault on the American mind. Why? Because ignorance is the handmaiden of tyranny.

Three Yale professors who have written extensively on authoritarianism are leaving the U.S. “We’re like people on the Titanic saying our ship can’t sink,” Marci Shore said. “And what you know as a historian is that there is no such thing as a ship that can’t sink.”
Opinion | We Study Fascism at Yale. We’re Leaving the U.S.
The decision by these three Yale professors to move to Canada is both a warning and a call to action.

Two criminals make a deal. Later, one of them miscalculates and turns on the other. After 4 years of war, one criminal is defeated and kills himself, while the other one gets to keep his loot and enslave several European countries for four decades. Russia deserves to celebrate NOTHING on May 9th.

The fact the the imposter in a Pope outfit has not been struck down by God yet can have one of three explanations: (1) God does not exist; (2) God is not Catholic; (3) God prefers to enjoy her revenge cold. My hunch is (1).

I visited Riga this week. Every time I visit a capital of one of the countries that were liberated in 1990-1991, I am amazed by the progress achieved since then. Back then they were drab and grey. Today they are beautiful and vibrant: www.greatpix.eu/Travel/Riga-...
Riga April 2025 - Nathan Wajsman
A couple of days in Latvia's capital city, a beautiful old town, part of the medieval Hanseatic League. An involuntary part of the Soviet Union until 1991, today a proud capital of a free country.

I continue to be amazed by the progress made in the former Communist country since liberation in 1990. Take Lithuania: 30 years ago its GDP per capita was 30% of the OECD average. Now it is at 88%. www.oecd.org/en/about/new...
Lithuania will need to strengthen fiscal sustainability, tackle labour shortages and foster productivity to address ageing challenges
Lithuania has achieved rapid convergence towards OECD living standards over the past 30 years. Policies should now focus on addressing rising ageing-related costs by improving public spending efficien...

Now that T***p is beginning his trade war in earnest, it is time to start boycotting US-made products. The only issue is US brands where the manufacturing takes place in Europe. They provide jobs here, but the profits go to the US. So I will most likely avoid those too.

It's been a long time since I read a book that made such an impression on me: "The Forbidden Notebook" by Alba de Céspedes. A classic of 20th century literature as far as I'm concerned. Available on Amazon and elsewhere.
