TLDR: there was a study that suggested on average sans serif fonts (though not Calibiri) were very slightly easier to read than serif fonts. However that same study showed that the easiest font to read was Courier (a monospaced serif font), so if accessibility was the goal they would switch to that.

With the news that the State Department is going back to Times New Roman, calling the move to Calibri a "wasteful diversity move", reupping this. With an administration this bad it's important to highlight the few good things they do.

There was a study awhile ago that suggested that on average, sans serif fonts were very slightly easier for dyslexics to read on what would by today's standards be fairly low resolution monitors.
Except the font it actually found was easiest to read was Courier, a monospace serif font.
