She didn't cave. Caving would be further engaging with an organization who think they can push a woman of color around to suit their right wing agenda. A "gentle suggestion" is never truly gentle nor is it ever just a suggestion.

Salman Rushdie already had earned a name for himself with "Midnight's Children" and others. The only problem with "Satanic Verses" is that it was a bit long and meandering. And I could have done with MORE slagging of Abrahamic religions (all of them), to give Benjy et al a bit more to whine about.

I came close to canceling when the presidential endorsement was spiked. But limiting what can and can't be on the opinion pages was the last straw. Amazon Prime canceled too.

The absolute number of congenital syphilis cases went from 21 to 35. When you are dealing with rare events, a relatively small change can look very big using percentages.

While abortion bans do limit states in which we would be willing to practice, this also affects states where abortion is safe and available. Bad outcomes happen--especially with high risk patients-- even with the best care. The threat of lawsuits makes obstetrics too expensive for many hospitals.
