And I know, part of it is that I'm just getting older and inflation's a real thing. I still have hundreds of places with more reasonably priced drinks to enjoy. But beers breaking the $10 bar and cocktails in the $20s does feel ominous for lower or middle-income people's ability to enjoy the city.

I just met family at Oscar Wilde in Chelsea. Very lovely and over the top restaurant. It was a tiki drink with well rum, velvet falernum, juice, and bitters. I've lived in NY for decades. It's pretty recent that restaurant cocktails broke the $20 mark. When Employees Only opened, theirs were $12.
