I really don't want to think about how the cheese might get into the kiwi.
Not just cities - I grew up in Northland and our nearest town (Kaikohe) had late night shopping until 8 on Fridays. Of course, shops barely opened in the weekend at all - the weekend opening made late night shopping less important.
I've been home since 7 August this is a bit of a wrap up post, but I've also spent half a month in Christchurch for a film festival, a music festival, a writers festival and a play, along with plenty of eating.

Home, via Christchurch
I am well and truly home - I flew back from Dallas on 5 August and arrived in Christchurch on the 7th.

Charles was definitely weird and annoying, without it ever being explained, but ultimately I think he meant well, and I liked how things went for him at the end.
Replacement for The Office, #ThePaper is growing on me. Up to #5, Catfish, and enjoyed Ezmeralda's flat earther's like response to the possibility she has been catfished, while it's clear to everyone she has been.
I never read the book, and it's a long time since I saw the Danny De Vito version, but I went along to watch #TheRoses and found it very enjoyable, although obviously uncomfortable when the fights begin. Ivy's creation of popular restaurants is much more important than Theo's creation of robot kids!
I've only met 2, maybe 3, in my life - and I spent nearly 20 years teaching 200 new students every year.
Yeah - I was surprised to learn how much government support Norman Kirk sorted out for them.
I don't really agree, but love how you describe it!
Fun hearing people texting in to #RNZ about how "intimate" the White Stripes gig at the King's Arms was, 25 years ago. That place was huge compared to the old Bodega in Wellington - we were so tightly packed, I grew six inches.
Publicity around the 3rd edition of #TheTwelve inspired me to go back and find the first episode. It looks promising, following a murder trial with the focus on the jury, Sam Neill as the defence lawyer, set in Cabramatta. #TVSky
Sad to see the end of Typepad - I have many blogs bookmarked that were hosted there, and am far from up to date in my reading of them. Such a huge amount of effort, and a valuable resource, just whisked away by the closure - sure, some have migrated, but nowhere near all of them.
I've had to suspend a couple because too much!
We're getting a bit too, aren't we?
I really enjoyed #TashAw The South - set on a failing orchard in southern Malaysia, it features the Lim family after Sui inherits, particularly young Jay's developing relationship with farm worker Chuan. Many tensions, softly explored.

Barry Allan's review of The South
4/5: I really liked hanging out with most of the characters in this book, want to do it again, so it's a good thing that it's the first book in a quartet. The South of the title refers to an area in J...

They were the Regional finals, and some superb wee movies emerged. I think they are still available to be watched. The actual 48 Hour film finals (sort of a big city v regions playoff) will be 25 October. All films can be seen here: www.48hours.co.nz/screening-ro...

After watching Gary's review, I had a huge craving for bangers and mash: no problems sorting either, but didn't know what to do about gravy. Frying an onion and some mushrooms (all thinly sliced) and then adding some medium Japanese Golden curry did the trick nicely.

This is a kind of siege mentality isn't it, with the embattled PM defending the embattled Finance Minister.
Michele Hewitson has a pretty rude article in this week's Listener about Masterton: in her diary of a week there, she has things to do on Monday, and then it's "Did nothing, nothing to do" for the rest of the week. I might have to go stay there to see if I can prove her wrong.
The mid terms are going to be interesting, hopefully in the direction of making life hard for him.
David Farrier on Webworm has written about the move to Ghost, you could probably get him to add information not already covered - my only contact with Ghost is as someone who subscribes to a few newsletters. I know there's no algorithm.
