Focusing on the big issues - they're all about environmental damage that humans are inflicting on this planet. Is there anything else that's more important? Plus a glimpse of reality.

Very good but I'm not sure that even Art wants to live within the boundaries of the planet that he claims we need to do.

But, still, another good rebuttal of the renewable dream.

I'm not looking for easy. I'm looking for rationale.

I've found a conversation on Resilence and will check it out but after a decade of looking at this stuff, it's hard to see how one can prepare meaningfully for the collapse of civilisation, not knowing when it will come, without completely opting out of society. www.resilience.org/stories/2019...

Why not? Since civilisation (especially this one) is unsustainable, it must end. No actions we take will make it sustainable and you can't prepare for a collapse of modern civilisation. The best we can do is delay that collapse, surely?

Your comment that this civilisation will collapse was the most important point but was hidden in the discussion. It made most of the discussion largely irrelevant.

They won't because it's not.

I don't think they're primarily men - they are all men! No need to watch.
December 7, 2025 at 5:05 AM
I don't think it's a must watch but Rupert Read had perhaps the most important point, which perhaps negated all the rest: this civilisation will collapse.
December 7, 2025 at 5:03 AM
Well, civilisation itself is not, and cannot be made, sustainable. So it's going to end anyway. Let's hope it ends while there's still a habitable environment for most species.

I had a visit from a religious type. He told me that prophecies were coming true. I said, great, that means we have nothing to do as everything is going according to god's plan. He left.

It depends on one's ethics.

Remove anyone who isn't a net asset? So, he'll be removing himself.
November 29, 2025 at 3:17 AM
OMG, what does he mean by "save ourselves?" There is no saving any form of civilisation because civilisation is unsustainable. Is this more bargaining?
November 29, 2025 at 3:14 AM
It's nothing to do with god that we can't stop behaving like a species.

No government has the slightest intention of reining in emissions unless it doesn't hamper economic growth. It will always hamper economic growth as everything depends on fossil fuels. Everything.

Yes, 4 days in a row of the hottest days for the dates.
November 28, 2025 at 3:25 AM
Everyone wants an unsustainable way of life to continue. You can guarantee it will be full of hopium.
November 28, 2025 at 3:23 AM
Petrostates are parties to the conference so there will never be agreement (much less actions) on phasing out fossil fuels. That can't be overcome.
November 24, 2025 at 12:21 AM
I think they'll never end.
November 23, 2025 at 9:22 AM
The same could be said of those seeking "the transition." Suppose it is possible and it happens. Then what? A continued degrading of the biosphere? The main causes of such damage, so far, don't include climate change (though it's getting there). If there is no transition away from modernity ... !
November 21, 2025 at 9:46 AM
I'm amazed that anyone who studies this stuff retains any optimism. Yes, a few young people are vocal but they will still want a modern world when they get older.

Not clean.
