Aldabra tortoises have a huge impact on their habitats in the wild. They are the primary consumers of vegetation and will noticeably alter their environment as they search for food. Tortoises have even been known to knock over small trees to munch on their leaves!

We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Jane Goodall today. Jane’s conservation work was groundbreaking. She was a tireless advocate for the protection of our natural world.

Curlew came to @oaklandanimalservices as a stray and soon after gave birth to seven healthy babies. With the help of a wonderful foster volunteer, she raised her little ones with devotion.

Ozzie, one of our spotted hyenas, is celebrating a birthday today! Linden, one of our Vet Techs who works closely with Ozzie, describes him as very smart, & he loves participating in training sessions.

Who? Who….is this local rescue? 🦉

This young barn owl was found by Oakland Zoo keepers. He was brought to Lindsay Wildlife Experience in Walnut Creek.

We are happy to report that this owl was returned to the wild back near the Zoo!

Hey, who are you calling dirty?! 🐷

🐽 Hogs get a bad rap & are often called untidy, but they are very clean! You may see them rolling in the mud, but they aren't trying to make a mess. During hot weather, hogs wallow to regulate their body temperature & protect their skin.
